The Equal Of This Bull

The Project Gallery, Blackwater Valley Makers, Fermoy, Co. Cork 2025
Returning to themes from Táin Bó Cúailnge, this installation unfolded as a living, responsive work over the course of its three-month duration. The composition shifted weekly, with elements moved, altered, or reconfigured in response to unfolding global conflicts, allowing the ancient epic to resonate with contemporary realities.
The artist was present on site for three days each week, engaging directly with the public and inviting conversations around personal experiences and perspectives on conflict. These exchanges became integral to the work’s evolution, shaping both its physical form and conceptual direction.
Insights gathered ranged from accounts of the murder of crows on a farm in rural County Cork to wide-ranging discussions on power, authority, and corruption in modern political systems. Through this process, the installation became not only a reflection on mythic struggle, but a forum for shared dialogue on the nature of conflict in contemporary life.
