Perceptions and Interventions

Cork Printmakers, Wandesford Quay, Cork. 2016

This exhibition explored the perception of women in both myth and lived experience, placing the figure of Medb from Táin Bó Cúailnge in dialogue with stills from This is My Body (Intervention Madrid). Through this pairing, the work examined themes of female agency, authority, and the body as a site of cultural projection.

The overlapping tropes of the Madonna and the bull — powerful symbols within both Irish and Spanish traditions — served as key points of reference, highlighting how gendered archetypes persist across narrative, religion, and spectacle.

This inquiry formed the foundation for two further strands of research and practice: Women in Art and Conversations on the Táin, both of which sought to re-examine inherited stories through a contemporary lens.
