Conversations On The Táin

Junction Arts Festival, Clonmel Co Tipperary 2021
This installation was held during COVID lockdown
The work comprised three large-scale installations placed in three different locations within the town, each drawing on themes and events from Táin Bó Cúailnge.
The Sod explores ideas of clan and family. Stone, earth, and wood are brought together from both the homeplaces of the artist’s grandparents and the artist’s current homeplace, creating a material connection between ancestry, land, and identity.
Dream Drawings examines the symbolic nature of the animals featured in The Táin. This series consists of sixteen large-scale drawings of animals from the epic, interspersed with contextual references that situate them within the narrative.
Sculpture Boxes expands on individual tales from the story — from the episode of the Pig Keepers to the death of Ferdia. These works are presented as a series of games played by children.
Two of the installations are situated outdoors, with one interior installation.
Accompanying sound pieces and storytelling elements were accessed via QR codes.
